Still
recording to 2" analog tape!
At Bova Sound we offer a homey and relaxed, yet real pro recording environment.
Our studio incorporates some of the classic analog gear from the golden
age of recording as well as modern digital gear. Bova Sound is located
at a home in the west end of Ottawa, Canada, and run by father and son;
Phillip
Victor Bova and Philip
Shaw Bova. The two Phils have worked on countless records and recordings
over the last 2 decades.
We're huge fans of the sound of analog tape and gear. Our usual process
is to record bed tracks down to our beloved 1968 Ampex 16 track tape
machine (originally from Columbia Studios in NYC), capturing a sonic
warmth and detail which only analog can do. The tracks can
then be transfered over to digital land. With this method you still
retain the warmth that the tape has imparted, but you gain the flexibility
of digital recording, ie: editing, mixing, and mastering. Or stay in
the analog world with an old school approach and mix through our vintage
1973 MCI console using some great outboard gear. Basically the idea
is to capture great sounds to tape and then take it from there - that's
our specialty.
We've amassed a nice collection of vintage studio gear, microphones,
instruments, tube amps, phaser, flanger, ring modulator, tape echoes,
and fuzz pedals, and many more that can give your recordings a cool
signature sound. For our complete gear list click
