about us

bova sound is a home based recording studio in Ottawa run by father and son; Phillip Victor Bova and Philip Shaw Bova. For over three decades we have dedicated our lives to providing the Ottawa music community (and beyond) with high quality recording services, ranging from engineering to full on producing. Between the two of us we've worked on hundreds of released records of many different styles throughout the years. Our main goal is to provide a homey and relaxed, yet real pro recording studio for our clients where creativity flourishes.

In an era where many studios are now all digital and centered around a computer...we are passionate about providing a fun recording environment where there are plenty of interesting and inspiring classic analogue pieces of gear to use and experiment with. We have an extensive collection of vintage tape machines, compressors, mic preamps, EQ's, reverbs and tape echoes, microphones, etc... For our complete gear list click here.

Still recording to 2" analog tape!

Our prefered method for recording is lay bed tracks down to our beloved 1968 Ampex 16 track tape machine (originally from Columbia Studios in NYC), capturing a sonic warmth and detail which only analog can do. The sound of drums coming back off tape will put a smile on your face. The tracks can then be transfered over to digital land on our Mac. With this method you still retain the warmth that the tape has imparted, but you gain the flexibility of digital recording, ie: editing, mixing, and mastering. Basically the idea is to capture great sounds to tape and then take it from there - that's our specialty.
